Heart Attack (Coronary thrombosis)

What is heart attack?
When the arteries responsible for blood supply to the heart are reduced or blocked a heart attack occurs. Blood can not flow through the arteries due to blockage. Heart attack is also called as myocardial infraction, Coronary thrombosis, acute coronary syndrome and coronary occlusion. The artery may eventually burst or tear at the blocked area. The patient may feel severe pain in the middle of the chest and it may be spread towards back , bally and hands also.

Symptoms of heart attack:
a. Severe pain in the middle of the chest. The pain may last for few minutes or more and again come back.
b. Difficulty in breathing. Shortness of breath.
c. Dizziness
d. Swelling of legs and ankles
e. Vomiting tendency
Causes of heart attack
a. over weight
b. taking too much fat contained food
c. smoking
d. taking some kind of drug such as cocaine
e. mental stress

Treatment of heart attack:
One should consult a specialist doctor immediately at the appearance of the symptoms of heart attacks. Delay in treatment may cause damage or even death. The sooner the treatment is started the better the chance of recovering. After admission in the hospital the doctor has to restore the blood flow immediately. Oxygen therapy is necessary. The patient is given the blood clot dissolved medicines or streptokinase injection or T.P.A. Angioplasty procedure is used to normalize the flow of the blood in the artery. If the amount blockage is high coronary artery bypass surgery may be required. Bypass may be off pump surgery or on pump surgery.


First aid medicine for heart attack:
a. Aspirin 325mg
b. Clopidogral 300 mg
c. Sorbitrate tab
Prevention:
a. don’t increase your body weight. Take balance diet and exercise under expert
b. avoid red meat, egg yolk, butter, rich food,
c. take sufficient vegetable
d. don’t smoke
e. avoid alcohol consumption
f. be tension and stress free
g. regular medical check up
