At the beginning of infection you will feel uneasy or little pain to take hot or cold drink and afterwards you have to suffer from severe toothache. You may think to extract your infected tooth. What is Root Canal Therapy(Root Canal Treatment):Root Canal Therapy is the treatment to restore the healthy condition of a damaged tooth.

What is Root Canal:
Basically a tooth has two parts: Crown and Root. Crown means the visible white part above the gum and roots is the anchor of jawbone. The bone holds the tooth with the help of small ligaments attached to the tooth. Root canal is the canal inside the tooth. Main canal may be one or two with some intricate branches. It contains soft tissue, the dental pulp. The pulp receives nutrition through the blood vessels and nerves carry signals back to the brain to warn of adverse events and circumstances.
When root canal treatment is required:When you visit your dentist for toothache, he will ask you how you feel pain at the time of drinking or chewing. Severe pain in tooth during chewing or during drinking of hot or cold drinks or swelling around the gum of a damaged tooth may require root canal treatment. Your dentist will suggest for x-ray to assess the underlying roots and surrounding bone and evaluate the condition of your gum.
How root canal therapy done:The basic idea of the therapy is to remove the pulp from the root canal. First the tooth will be separated with the help of rubber dam kit. Then the dentist will make a small whole on the crown to eliminate all the content of the pulp chamber with the help of tiny and flexible files. Then with the help of delicate file your dentist will clean the canal with up and down motion so that the canals are disinfected. Then the cavity will be temporarily sealed.
How many seatings are required:Depending upon the condition of tooth, position of tooth, number of root etc. it may take three to five seatings.
Is it possible to restore the health of a damaged tooth fully through RCT:Since the tooth receives nutrients from the adjacent tissues and bone so the tooth is not a dead tooth and bring back the sensitivity and you may feel like your other teeth.
How much painful it is:
Now a days Root canal therapy is almost painless.
How long the treated tooth last: If you take proper care by regular brushing especially after each primary meal, take less sweets and undertake regular dental check up, your tooth may last long.
